The exhibition will run until Saturday 15th November and is open Thursday to Saturday each week. The Gallery may be open on other days but this is not guaranteed as staffing is voluntary, please call to check or make an appointment. We are always happy to show you round without obligation.
Our first exhibition reflects our inclusive ideology. It truly is an eclectic mix, from the contemporary to the traditional we have a little bit of something for everyone. We have local artists evoking in paint, their deep and abiding love of the area and it's people, from the unique coastal wilderness that is Dungeness, across the dykes and pastures of the Marshes and into the cathedralesque naves of the Kent country lanes. We have conceptual artists and filmmakers reflecting their social or personal concerns in both traditional and alternative media. We have artists and designers indulging exciting creative tangents, exploring the possibilites and boundaries of materials and abstraction in a variety of mediums. We have photographers, painters, potters, printmakers, sculptors, filmmakers and jewellers. We are all exhibiting artists.
For our 'landscape' exhibition we have a varied collection of interpretations on the theme of land/sea/city/mind/body...scape. From traditional watercolour landscapes and local interest works to contemporary abstracted 2d/3d forms and 'mindscapes' our artists explore the genre in a multifaceted fashion. Through photography, sculpture and paint, form, colour and mark, the works evoke and provoke. The idea and form of 'landscape' has undergone many revisions throughout the ages and is perhaps considered somewhat passe in contemporary terms, certainly in its more traditional forms. Yet, as a subject for inspiring images of great depth and beauty it remains as popular as ever. We celebrate '....scapes' from established artists and from emerging ones, in time honoured and contemporary fashions. We hope to excite with an eclectic display of the observational through conceptual. Exhibition starts 20th Nov.and ends at Christmas.
